All About Me: KD Smith – Your Teaching Sidekick!
Hey there, fellow educator! I’m KD, and I’m so excited to connect with you. If you’re here, you’re probably looking for time-saving, sanity-saving, and downright life-saving teaching resources and handy tips —well, you’re in the right place!
I am a mum of 2 boys (20 years apart!!) who went to Uni as a single mum to get my 4 year Batchelor of Education degree. I have a LOT of life experience that I put to great use every day. I’ve been in the teaching trenches since 2009 and working as an Additional Support Needs teacher (special education teacher) with a self-contained ASN class since 2011. Right now, I teach primary 4-7 (that’s years 3-6 in England or grades 2-5 in the US)—but no matter the grade, my mission is the same: to make learning accessible, engaging, and fun for ALL students.
Oh, and did I mention? I was born and raised in Scotland—so if you notice a bit of British flair in my writing (or an unreasonable love for tea/Irn Bru), now you know why!
Let’s be honest—curriculums don’t always fit every child, and as teachers, we’re constantly tweaking, modifying, and reinventing just to make things work. I know the struggle because I live it every day. Less staff? Fewer resources? More requirements? Yep, been there. That’s why I started creating my own resources—to make life easier, and now I can share them with you.
Adapted resources for diverse learners
Time-saving printables that actually work
Creative ideas to keep your students engaged
A dash of humour (because we all need it!)
You might be wondering, “KD, you’re in Scotland, so why do some of your resources have an American twist?” Well, turns out I have some students who are OBSESSED with all things USA—so yes, we learn about Thanksgiving, discuss the Fourth of July, and dive into American-themed lessons. They LOVE it, and honestly, so do I!
I truly believe every child deserves to learn, and I know first-hand that it’s not always easy. That’s why I’m here—to share resources that work, that save you time, and that your students will actually enjoy.
So stick around, grab a coffee, tea or Scotland's National soft drink Irn-Bru and let’s make teaching a little less stressful and a little more richly planned!
Shine your light
